artist statement
I am an interdisciplinary artist whose non-medium specific practice explores displacement, migration, and politics of knowledge with questions relating to narration, memory work, and failure tactics through sculpture, collage, print, textile, installation, moving image and sound.
I blur hierarchies between truth and fiction using marginalized methods of research such as family photography, oral histories, popular cultural productions, and domestic work to examine and offer other possible notions of remembering and collecting. The fusion of autobiography and fiction through multilayered artistic approach becomes a hopeful approach in challenging forgotten or omitted history and confronts the expectations that immigrant artists provide an insider role to a culture. My practice seeks to recover moments of force and locate traces in the absences and omissions in collective and personal narratives.
Thank you to the Ontario Arts Council for their generous support.
